Why This Blog and Why This Name?

I'm not so sure that the world needs another blog. I'm not so sure that if I wrote a blog that anyone would read it. I'm not so sure my own mother would read it. My wife yawned when I told her that I was going to be writing a blog. My ten year old son snorted and snickered when I told him that I was going to be a 'blogger.' Apparently, 'blogger' sounds like it belongs in the 'booger' family. Pre-adolescence, sheesh. Then why write a blog?

I think that a blog should have more than a narcissistic purpose - thinking that people will want to read what you wrote no matter what it is just because you are the one who wrote it. Rather, a blog should have a defined purpose. My purpose in writing this blog is found in the name of the blog "Free Range Pastor." The term 'Free Range' is the idea of roaming freely and grazing naturally without confinement.

I love the open range, I went to High School in Wyoming near where the banner photo of this blog was taken. The open range is in my blood and my home was on the range. For it is out on the range that the deer and the antelope play and seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day. Sorry, I could not resist.

I want to take the time to roam, without confinement, in a number of topics and and updates that will allow me to share in a more personal and direct way with our Beaverton Foursquare Family. Some of the postings will be seemingly random musings about life, Bible and current events. Some of the postings will be specific to what God is doing in our midst and saying to us as a church family. And, some of the postings will be personal anecdotes and comments.

I plan on blogging once or twice a week. Every Tuesday morning for sure and sometimes more. That is all that I can realistically commit to, but you never know, it may be more.

This blog will have a pre-determined end date. From August '09 to August '10, I will be a blogger on this blog. But, I will be a one term blogger. There will be term limits that will be adhered to. It will be fun, serious, silly and unconfined...but only for a year.

I'm still not convinced that the world needs another blog, especially one written by me...but, if it allows me one more opportunity to share about Jesus and to relate to the flock at Beaverton Foursquare, then I am up for the task. Giddyup!
